Now that I’m at home again and my schedule is not dominated by meetings with others, I have been trying to develop a routine that makes sense to me and that I can hopefully stick to on those days when I’m feeling well and not running down to Boston for doctor’s appointments or trying to catch up from a poor sleep night.
Especially in the winter time the days can be very long up here even though it gets dark very early.
I am not a morning person and I tend to get the best of my energy around 2:00 or 3:00 PM when most people are flagging. I would love to be one of those people who gets up before the sun and everyone else in her house to write in the early quiet, but I’m not. Once the kids are off to school, I’ll usually take a shower and do a few chores. Before I know it, it’s lunch time and shortly after that the kids are home.
Now that they are old enough not to need me (or even want to talk to me most days – “How was your day?” Grunt. ), I can write when they are home, and I often do. I enjoy sitting down with a cup of tea and a treat in the afternoon. It keeps me productive so I can get to a good stopping point before starting dinner.
I know this will evolve. Life has been really challenging lately and I haven’t really settled into anything yet or picked a direction now that I’m not working for someone else. The chaos may be starting to abate and I can enjoy my tea in peace.
